Decide what the website must do

Start with the action you want visitors to take: request a quote, call, message on WhatsApp, or buy. Every page should lead towards one of those actions, and the site should track each of them.

Plan pages around what customers search for

Search engines rank pages, not websites. A single page that lists every service ranks for none of them well, so give each service that people search for its own page.

  • One page per service, with a title and heading that use the words customers type, such as the service and the city
  • Short answers to common questions on the page itself, marked up as FAQ where the content is genuinely there
  • Internal links between related pages, using descriptive link text instead of "click here"
  • Local wording that reflects where you actually work, such as Muscat, Seeb or the rest of Oman, without repeating it unnaturally

Technical checklist before launch

These items cost little at build time and are slow to fix after launch.

  • A unique title (about 50 to 60 characters) and meta description (about 150 characters) on every page
  • One H1 per page, followed by logical H2 and H3 headings
  • A self-referencing canonical URL on every page
  • HTTPS everywhere, with HTTP and non-www addresses redirecting to one preferred version
  • An XML sitemap listing only indexable pages, submitted in Google Search Console, and a robots.txt that does not block them
  • Structured data (LocalBusiness or Organization, Service, FAQ, breadcrumbs) that matches the visible content
  • Compressed images with descriptive alt text, and mobile layouts tested on a real phone
  • Fast loading on mobile: check Core Web Vitals in PageSpeed Insights before and after launch

Arabic and English versions

If customers search in both languages, publish both. Give each language its own URL, mark the pairs with hreflang tags, translate the titles and descriptions as well as the body text, and use right-to-left layouts for Arabic.

Local search for businesses in Muscat

Searches that include a city name usually show a map result first. Claim and verify a Google Business Profile, keep the business name, address and phone number identical on your website and every directory, and ask real customers for reviews. Only build a page for a town or area if you can say something genuinely useful about work there.

Replacing an old website without losing rankings

Before launching a redesign, export the pages that already receive impressions and clicks from Google Search Console. Keep the same URL where the page still exists, and redirect each old URL to the closest equivalent page with a 301. Do not redirect everything to the homepage, because Google treats that as a soft 404. After launch, submit the new sitemap and watch Search Console for crawl errors for several weeks.

Measure what matters

Connect Search Console and Google Analytics, and track calls, WhatsApp clicks and form submissions as events. Review queries, pages and conversions monthly, and improve the pages that already rank on the second page of results first, because those need the least work to gain traffic.
